The Lok Sabha member from Hyderabad, Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi met the Hyderabad district Collector Rahul Bojja along with the representatives of the Valmiki Samaj Seva Society (Mehtar Samaj) on Tuesday. Asad Owaisi highlighted the problems faced by the Valmikis and urged the district collector to direct the mandal revenue officers to issue scheduled Caste (SC) community certificates for the Valmikis. The collector assured the lanky M. P to look into the matter and resolve the issues within a week.
Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi, M. P, representing the problems of Valmiki (Mehtar) Samaj to Hyderabad District Collector Rahul Bojja on Tuesday.
It may be recalled that the Valmikis, who were given lands and facilities for more than 100 years by the Nizams of Hyderabad, suddenly became the neo ‘untouchables’. The scavenging community was given the scheduled caste status in the unified Andhra Pradesh. But after the formation of the new Telangana State, the Valmikis have moved heaven and earth for inclusion of their community in the SC community. According to the Valmiki leaders, Jitender Singh, Ravi Kumar and others, no other political party listened to represent their problems. But, when they approached the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen supremo Asad Owaisi at the party headquarters in Darussalam, they were in for a pleasant surprise.
Asad Owaisi listened to their problems patiently. He sprang to his feet and asked party secretary and legislator Ahmed Pasha Quadri to accompany him to the collector office along with the leaders of the Valmiki community. The Valmikis, who have been traditionally supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the communally sensitive parts of Hyderabad, are amazed at the swift and sincere response of the Majlis chief. They have termed Asad Owaisi their new messaiah. It is not out of place to mention that Owaisi had represented the issue of Nakkala Pittalolu community, after which the government notified Nakkala Pittalolu as Scheduled Tribe (ST) earlier.
The Majlis president Asaduddin Owaisi is reaching out to the Dalits in a big way and he is earning their trust too. In Uttar Pradesh municipal elections, Gautam, a Dalit was elected on the Majlis ticket recently. Now, with the Valmiki Samaj impressed by Asad Owaisi’s leadership skills, the BJP will find it tough to retain municipal wards falling under areas like Sultan Shahi, Chatrinaka, Lal Darwaza, Sanathnagar with a considerable population of Valmikis. The notification for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHM C) elections is due this week. The Jai Meem-Jai Bheem bonhomie will ensure social and communal harmony in Hyderabad. Asad’s late father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi had the distinction of getting Prakash Rao, a Dalit, elected as the first Mayor from his MIM party in the 1980s.
